The dusky skies surrounded the sandlot in Twilight Town. Sand flew in the air like flies, sweat ran down his brow but he didn’t have time to realize it. Blue plastic swung in the air, only seconds before the sound of its clashes were met by the human ear. Grunting, yelling and in one swift motion it stopped. Breathing heavily a young blonde haired boy looked at his apprentice.
“You’re getting better, you’ve been training haven’t you?” he looked down at his sparing partner whose yellow beaded eyes stared back at him in embarrassment “Well…maybe a little” the younger said shyly underneath his wizard cap. “Keep it up you’re doing good, though you might want to work on your defense, it’s lacking” the older boy sat down on a bench and took his black cap off.
“T-Thank you, Seifer Sir!” Good remarks and compliments came rare from Seifer’s mouth, the young boy was pleased.
“yea yea” Seifer said wiping the sweat from his forehead, the little Wizard watched carefully as his fingers traced the outline of a long scar on his face. The blonde realized this and glared. “What’re you staring at Vivi?”
“Uh…Seifer, uh how did you…..how did you get that scar?”
The scared-faced youth stared off into oblivion at the question, Vivi drew back fearing he had asked a horrible question.
“What scar?” Seifer said in a monotone voice, acting not concerned or interested.
Vivi stuttered “U-Uhm…”
“Seifer!”
“Seifer was training with Vivi y’know Fuu? I told you he was bound to be-”
“Silence.”
“Sorry y’know”
Seifer grunted and put his cap back on. “So, Rai, Fuu how’s the lamer patrol going?”
“Absent!” Young Fuu glared at Seifer with a piercing red eye. Seifer grimaced a bit; she was in a bad mood.
“What’s wrong? Did I miss something?” he said in apparent shock.
“Show” she said sharply
Seifer scratched his head in wonder then the idea hit him. “I was supposed to show up for those losers wasn’t I?”
“Correct”
“Yea we waited for you y’know?”
Seifer let a small laugh escape his lips “Sorry about that guys, I was showing the pipsqueak here what’s what, totally forgot, didn’t mean to have you hang around with that chicken-wuss and his gang”
“Reschedule”
“We told ‘em you’d do it tomorrow y’know”
“Right so tomorrow at the old mansion?”
“Right”
“I’ll keep a memo of it, I’ve got some…things to do I’ll see you at the hangout later” The leader of Twilight Towns Disciplinary committee waved to his companions as he disappeared into the shadows of an abandoned alley. He knew no one would try to correct him not to go down a dead end, not only because no one dared to correct him but also because he was in thought and once he was no human could snap him out of it.
As he walked his hand unconsciously traced his scar, he closed his eyes for a second.
He reached the end off the alley and his eye twitched. An image, a recollection of thought and memory pushed its way into his mind. A girl, a man, a boy, and himself. A blade, some words, a shriek, yelling, his name. Struggling, Seifer took a deep breath and bashed his head into the wall, stopping the image altogether. His turquoise eyes stared deeply into the wall, fear edged up his spine but by the time it reached his mind it had turned to anger. Grabbing his practice bat he yelled, beating the wall several times in a huge frenzy of rage until the bat broke into two.
Seifer stared at it too before giving it a scowl and muttering “piece of crap, wasn’t all that good anyway”. He walked back to the hangout where he was sure the committee posse would be waiting for him.
Back at the hangout before their leader could even step foot inside, Rai was walking around talking endlessly about the rumors of the mansion much to Fuu’s chagrin.
“And I even heard there’s this girl that lurks around the second floor window!y’know?”
Fuu lay on a cot, one arm across her chest while the other hung down limply, her face was full of complete boredom and silent anger. She looked over at Vivi who sat on a cot of his own, hands clamped together innocently and feet hanging over the floor.
“Alright?” Fuu said to him
The young boy blinked in surprise, realizing he hadn’t said a word since they had come. He looked down at the floor contemplating on whether he should as Fuu his question.
“Fuu…how did Seifer…how did he get his uh…uhm…his s-scar?”
Vivi saw Fuu’s one frightening eye loose its vigor. “He hasn’t even told us why. It’s been like that for as long as I can remember” her words came softly and this news intrigued Vivi. “You asked him didn’t you?” she asked, by this time Rai had stopped his ranting and became aware of the conversation taking place without him, he listened patiently. Vivi nodded his head slowly. “He acted as if it didn’t exist”
“He hates talking about it y’know?” said Rai “He acts as if nothings wrong”
“And every time he goes off in thought” Fuu informed them
Vivi’s bead eyes softened “Is he…afraid of it?”
“Afraid of what? I’m not afraid of anything!” The cocky voice of Seifer rang out; the three kids felt something surge up their spine, him walking in on their conversation about something he never wanted to talk about. Though he realized the topic of discussion Seifer was more concerned with the stares he was getting.
“You both should stop talking to the pipsqueak, you’re beginning to look like him” he scowled and threw what was left of his blue bat on the floor.
“What happened to your bat y’know?” Rai dared ask
Seifer snapped back in sarcasm “I decided it was too heavy for me, no, I broke it you idiot can’t you see?” he walked off lying down on top of his cot.
“Seifer” Fuu began
“Don’t worry about it Fujin I’m fine, I’ll just take a nap and be ready for that mansion tomorrow”
Fuu and Rai exchanged glances, Seifer never called them by their full name, nor did anyone else for the matter. The committee left without another word spoken.
Alone Seifer decided to scowl and cuss at the wall he faced. After a series of words Seifer knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep. He looked at a crack above his cot, the forever setting sun seemed angelic in the room. Seifer sighed, grabbed some munny the group was saving up, and headed for the train station.
Sunset terrace was a beautiful place in the evening. The twilight of the sun gave it a calming mood and lack of buildings like Twilight Town allowed more light into the water that flowed through it. Seifer smiled at the sight. He headed for sunset hill slowly taking in this sight.
When he reached the top he frowned. Roxas,Hayner,Olette, and Pence. The lamers of Twilight Town he liked to call them. He shrugged it off and decided a little talk wouldn’t hurt him.
“Good afternoon, slackers” he greeted.
Hayner turned around “Seifer!”
Seifer smirked at his name “What’re you doing out here?”
“What do you care?” came the snide remark
Seifer lowered his eyelids “I don’t. Tell me anyway”
“We’re waiting for the ghost train!” Olette said happily
“Waiting for the ghost train!” he mocked at such an idea, he knew it was for a stupid summer report that was due, one he could care less about and would probably make Vivi do later once he remembered at the last minute. He surveyed the group amused, Hayner was still giving him a death glare, something that made Seifer have a feeling of accomplishment deep down inside, Pence was sitting down looking for the train and Olette happily ignored the blondes’ presence as she waited too. Then his eyes met with Roxas’s, something about those eyes, that hair, his face, made his blood coil and a fear shock up his spine. He grunted in anger.
“Why does looking at you always tick me off?” he said rudely expecting an appropriate answer. Roxas glared back at him before concentrating on the sunset.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s destiny”
Destiny. Seifer had never thought of that, after a small thought he decided it was good enough for him.
“Destiny? In that case, let’s be friends. I don’t feel like cooperating with Destiny”
Satisfied he turned back around to walk down the hill.
Hayner called to him “Hey Seifer don’t forget…!”
“I know. Tommorow”
Seifer stared at his feet as he made his way back to the train station; he looked up instantly when he found the recognizable shoes of Fuu and Rai.
“You guys didn’t have to come looking for me” he laughed
“We weren’t y’know, we brought Vivi here”
The smile disappeared from Seifer’s face.
“Scared” Fuu said, unblinking.
“Guys, I’m fine really”
“You sure, you’ve been acting strange all day y’know, is it cause Vivi asked you about your scar?”
“Rai” Fuu growled
“Fuu, lay off him, I just need…”
“You need to face your fear” she said quickly, a little too quickly that it sounded like one word.
“Yea, maybe I do…I’ll see you tomorrow” Seifer was off before either of his two friends could respond.
Once in Twilight Town he knew what he had to do, he ran towards the abandoned mansion. The forest before it seemed the only spot in Twilight Town the sun didn’t bother to grace with its beauty. As his feet stomped on twigs, irritating the silence, his heart started to pound. “I shouldn’t be here” he said quietly into the air. His feet finally stepped out of the forest. He took a long hard look at the Mansion. Glancing slightly at the second floor window, his face turned into realization.
“A girl…” he closed his eyes, the image was blurry but nothing burned in his mind more than a blade striking his face, and a girl with creamy white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. She wore a white dress to go with her complexion, he remembered her, and she screamed his name as he dealt that blow. But after that his eyes had stung with blood. He couldn’t recall seeing her again after that.
A snapping of a twig caught his attention, not wanting to be seen he hid in a bush away from sight. Roxas came out of the woods, the sounds of Pence not far behind him. As Roxas got closer to the gate time seemed to freeze for a second, Seifer eyes grew wide as a shiny weapon instantly appeared and disappeared in Roxas’s hand. By this time Pence had caught up and they proceeded into the Mansion. The creaking of the old gate doors made Seifer cringe. He didn’t know why this place creped him out so much but now a thought was holding his attention.
He inched closer after Roxas and Pence, the fight raged on in his head. He remembered the girl and two men in black hoods. He knew one of them had that same weapon Roxas was handling in that split instant. “A Key...blade?” he thought to himself.
He broke into a run to get inside the Mansion before the doors closed, stealthily he slipped inside unnoticed and waited after Roxas had run off wandering. With just Pence he didn’t have much to worry about; the curious boy was too busy examining the place to notice Seifer lurking in the shadows. He knew this place, this room. He looked around slowly. “This is the room” he said to himself. He knew it well, exactly where he was when it happened. It was all coming back to him now. How the heartless had invaded the shores of Balamb and after a meaningless attempt to fight them off the world had slipped into darkness. That was the last time Seifer had seen Squall and the rest of the Balamb Gardeb students.
He remembered wandering around in darkness for days, possibly weeks, before waking up in this dusty Mansion. He hadn’t felt anything different at first but soon he realized that his body was three years younger, taking the appearance of his fifteen year old self. Before he could recollect his trail of thought three figures had burst out, one that girl, the other two in black hoods. One had his hood removed however, revealing his older looking appearance and silver hair, he looked over at Seifer for a split second before being attacked by the smaller hooded figure. They were at it for a while before the girl was brought into it for a hostile attempt.
“Namine!” cried the silver haired hood; the figure knocked him out instantly with a hard blow to the head with a keyblade, another he held to Namine’s throat. She looked over at Seifer with pleading eyes “Help me!” she cried.
Looking around Seifer scrambled to his feet, adjusting to his younger body, he grabbed a sword off the wall and got in his famous battle stance. “Not as good as a gunblade” he told himself and rushed at the hooded boy, cutting his hand causing him to let go of the girl.
“But still effective” Seifer smirked. He became engaged in battle, still clumsy in his new form, he found it difficult to hold off two blades and keep his balance. After a series of hits all Seifer could do was hold the blade in front of him as defense, but the figure got the upper hand and threw Seifer against the wall.
The blonde was on the ground in an instant from the impact. He heard Namine shriek in response. “Seifer!” she called to him.
“Wait, you know my name?” he asked alarmed. Namine recoiled in response, not wanting to answer him.
“So your name’s Seifer huh?” the hooded figure asked.
Seifer snapped out of his thought, a tremble had passed through the mansion. Pence had felt it too, yet he was hesitant to find out what it was. Seifer sighed and decided to do the checking himself, he ran up the steps and toward a room full of books, and a secret underground passage.
“Convenient” he muttered, subconsciously walking and trying to remember the rest of the fight. He knew that voice, he heard it before. It sounded like…
Namine was close to tears “Roxas don’t!” the hood looked at Namine, enough time for Seifer to grab the sword and swing at his head, the hood fell off. He stared at him; it was a young boy, no older than his own appearance. “Roxas, huh?” He said cockily gripping his blade harder. “Where Am I?” he decided to ask.
Namine tried answering “You’re in Twilight Town, Roxas was defeated, but he woke up and-”
“And now he wants to have a little fun” said Roxas holding his blades ready for a fight.
“I’m not gunna fight some kid” Seifer muttered “I’ve got more important things to do”
The hood laughed at him “Like what? Finding your poor excuse of a world? It was lost to darkness months ago, it doesn’t exist anymore”
The older boy looked in shock “Then where are the others?” he demanded
Noticing he was off guard Roxas took the moment to smash Seifer against the wall “Gone, heartless, and maybe even scattered across the galaxy, I guess it depends on how strong their hearts were”
“So, Raijin and Fujin…Squall..Rinoa…No!” Seifer charged back in rage, Roxas tried his best to hold him off but now this blonde was gaining more strength. He swung at Roxas who dodged and used one of his blades to trip Seifer; he laughed and threw him to the floor. Seifer dropped his sword and was dealing with the blow trying to get up, his back aching. He had gotten to his knees when the blade of the sword he had used was pointing at his head.
“You know…”Roxas said smiling; Namine was near the silver haired man but was looking at the scene before her perplexed. “I think I liked it better when you had that scar” before Seifer could do anything the blade had cut his skin, giving his scar back. He screamed as blood caught into his eyes. The rest he could only hear was Namine shouting his name and a loud clash of metal on head. The rest became a blur.
“Roxas gave me this scar” said Seifer now in the basement “why couldn’t I remember this before?” he stopped when he saw a smashed computer; Roxas had probably been down here. Seifer knew this room too.
“That was a close one Riku” Namine said to the Silver haired man.
“Call me Ansem” Riku responded casually “Now what’re we going to do about him?” he gestured towards Seifer.
A new voice appeared “This heart has been traveling for days trying to find a home that fits him, he found it here in Twilight Town because like you, Riku, his heart lingers in Twilight” the voice sounded wise, Seifer couldn’t speak, nor bring himself to move, the pain seemed so much worse than when his rival Squall had given it to him.
“DiZ…what do you suppose we do?” asked Riku
DiZ came closer to Roxas and Seifer “let Roxas recuperate, I’ve made a replica of this place, I’m sure he’ll find it comfortable there, Namine, that’s where you complete your mission”
The girl nodded slowly, looking at Roxas sadly.
“As for this boy here, do your best to let him forget this incident, he’ll just be a regular teenager that grew up in the Town”
“But, DiZ, you know I can’t alter his memory, he hasn’t had any contact with-”
“I know Namine, please try”
“Ok…”she said softly
“Keep this boy away from the mansion, only have Roxas come back, alright?”
Seifer put his hands in his pockets examining the basement; he looked around the place that seemed empty. Something inside him told him Roxas wasn’t coming back out, and that this Twilight Town was possibly going to be deleted once Namine’s mission was complete. He just hoped the real Seifer found his way back home to Balamb safely.
“heh, Good luck” he told himself smiling a bit sadly.
He heard talking and a loud noise in the room next to him. “I should get out of here” he said climbing back up the steps. Before stopping and looking back.
“See ya, Roxas” he said solemnly, continuing back up hoping to find Rai, Fuu and Vivi once he got back to the hangout.
